April
May Corn was planted by moon phases
Rick Cavazo’s successful method for growing corn. Plant at the start of April, then again in May and July. Make sure the corn is planted in a sunny location and receives adequate water and nitrogen. (Augmenting the soil is a major part. Otherwise, all you have is dirt in a yard that has been growing things for sixty years.) Water with soaker hoses that circle the plants. Make circles about 24 inches in diameter, then plant six plants outside the circle. Dig a small depression in the center of the circlet to hold the water & add a slow release fertilizer. The rings are about 20” apart. Rick says the trick is to plant them just the right distance apart. He doesn’t get much success with rows. The first time he planted about 60 stalks in a plot about 12’ by 10”. Same for the second. Only about 30 stalks for the last batch. All were separate plots.
